It doesn’t matter how hard you push your marketing if your content isn’t up to scratch, then you’re simply not going to get anywhere. Content isn’t king like they always say. Instead, it’s the whole damned kingdom. That means that if you publish content and hope to get people to visit and they find your website ugly and your content confusing and disappointing, nobody is going to come back.

So how do you prettify your content? How do you make the villages pretty, the rivers sparkle and the people book their next holiday before they’ve even finished this one? That’s what we’re going to talk about today.

5 Ways to Be a Better Content Creator

Content creation is not a talent

The first thing that you’re going to have to realize is that content creation is not something people are naturally good at. Sure, they might have more of an inkling than other people do, but that inkling is only a beginning.

To become a good content creator takes time. There are no two ways about it. You have to sit down and do it again and again. I promise you, all good content creators weren’t all that good to begin with. It was only because they stuck in the effort and the time to get better that they did.

Another thing they did is take the time to find out what they were doing wrong in order to fix it. That means that you can’t just create content, but have to take the time to edit, rewrite, rethink and revisit everything that you do. For only in that way are you going to see what you’re doing wrong and as they say, realizing your mistake is the first step to fixing it.

Partner up

If you don’t feel all that confident making content it can be a hard thing to do. It can often feel like you’re working in a vacuum, with no real idea of what idea works and which does not. There is an easy way around this and that is to work together with somebody.

Find somebody who has some skill at content creation and partner up with them. The best thing is to actually physically meet to discuss the ideas that you’ve had so that they can give you feedback. Do they like it? Do they get excited and offer new ideas that you can run with? Do they sit forward? Do they smile and nod?

Those are all tips if you’re on to something (body language can often be a better indicator of whether an idea is good than what they say. People are far more polite with their words than their bodies).

Get somebody else to create it

Those solutions don’t sound interesting? Then do what most ‘content creators’ do. Hand it off to somebody else! This strategy is far more common than you might think. If a website suddenly starts a blog and it’s really quite good, you can assume that somebody else is writing it (or that they’re at least getting serious editing help).

After all, point one is just as true for everybody else as it is for you.

Really, there is no shame in getting somebody else to write your content for you. After all, we’ve all got our specialties and our abilities. So why not focus on what we’re good at and leave the less enjoyable things for somebody else to do?

Delegate is the name of the game in the business world – so why not make it part of your content creation strategy as well? There are thousands of sites to use, but for writing jobs, I advise Rewarded Essays.

Step sideways    

There are tons of ways to create content. So why are you only focusing on writing it? Sure, most of the internet is filled with written words, but why do what everybody else is doing? Like Mark Twain said, when you find yourself on the side of the majority, it’s time to pause and reflect.

So consider another strategy. Start doing podcasts. Create videos or animations. Heck, start a comic strip. People have gotten famous with stick figures, you know, so you don’t even have to be able to draw!

Sure, when you start out it can be intimidating, but don’t let that hold you back. The best advice I’ve ever heard is ‘just start’. After all, you can read and watch as many videos as you like, but information is not the same as knowledge or skill. Those can only be gathered by actually doing things and getting involved.

Find influencers in your niche

The best way to create good content is by relentlessly copying other people. Now, I’m not saying to plagiarize. That will get you in trouble. But if you see somebody talking about something that’s interesting, then put up your 2 cents as well.

In fact, sometimes by linking back to the original conversation you can get valuable feedback, create backlinks and let other people find out that you’re out there. Just make sure that when you do write something in response to what somebody else has to say, you make sure that they know it’s out there.

You can just put in a comment on their website where you cover the first point and then a link to your own stuff. It’s important to include some of what you actually say as then people are going to realize that it’s not just spam and are actually going to take an interest.

Last words

I know how you feel. When you first start creating content, nobody pays attention. You might as well be screaming down a well for all the good it will do you. That can be both disheartening and frustrating. And often you end up wondering ‘why do I even bother?’

I used to feel the same way. Now I create content for a living. How did I get from there to here? I kept working at it. And so should you.

We’re in a golden age for content creators. There are a lot of people paying good money for content creation. Of course, they’re only going to pay that to people who actually manage to create content of a certain quality.

Yes, it is a hard slog to get up that hill to where you can produce that kind of quality, but once you do, then you’ll always have that. You’ll be able to draw people’s attention, make money, and influence opinions. And those are all three vital skills to have.
