OnePlus 5 Smartphone is Now Officially Unveiled

As announced earlier, OnePlus has officially unveiled its 2017 flagship smartphone called OnePlus 5. The key details along with the design of this new device are already revealed, thanks to the several leaks. As seen from the last couple of weeks, the new OnePlus 5 looks similar to Apple iPhone 7 Plus and sports top-notch specifications. However, the company still continues with the Full HD resolution display featuring comparatively bigger bezels than the other 2017 flagship devices. It sports an Anodized Aluminum unibody with curved Antennas on the top and bottom rear of the device.

The Optic AMOLED panel introduced with the OnePlus 3 & OnePlus 3T is continued on to the OnePlus 5. The 5.5-inch Full HD display offers a pixel density of 401 PPI and comes protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor built using the 10nm FinFET process. Apart from its smaller size, the Snapdragon 835 processor also offers high performance and better battery life. While the OnePlus 3 launched in mid-2016 is the first 6GB RAM smartphone from a major manufacturer, now the newly announced OnePlus 5 sports a whopping 8GB of RAM. Asus already launched the Tango phone called Zenfone AR with 8GB of RAM.

While the 8GB RAM variant comes with 128GB of onboard storage, there is another variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. As seen with the earlier launched OnePlus devices, the new OnePlus 5 also misses featuring it. The device runs on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with the improved Oxygen OS laid on top. The new Reading Mode automatically detects the data from the display and adjust the display accordingly. Beneath the display is the physical home button that comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor.

Talking about the cameras, there is a dual-lens camera on the rear featuring a 16MP Sony IMX398 wide-angle sensor and a 20MP Sony IMX350 telephoto sensor. It offers 2X lossless zoom as seen on the Apple iPhone 7 Plus and Xiaomi Mi 6. The camera offers f/1.7 aperture, dual tone LED flash, PDAF, and Pro mode. Interestingly, there is no optical image stabilization (OIS) on this device, but the company offers the electronic image stabilization (EIS). It can record 4K video at 30fps and 720p slow motion videos at 120fps. For selfies, there is a 16MP Sony IMX371 fixed focus sensor with f/2.0 aperture and screen flash.

It comes with dual SIM dual standby and supports 34 LTE bands. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, 3.5mm Audio port, and USB 2.0 Type-C port. As seen with the OnePlus 3 and 3T, the new OnePlus 5 also offers Dash Charging support (5V/4A) for its 3,300mAh non-removable battery. The device measures 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.25 mm and weighs 153 grams. The power button is on the right edge, while the volume rocker and alert slider are on the left edge of the device.

The OnePlus 5 packs single bottom-facing speaker but includes three microphones with noise cancellation. It will be available in Midnight Black & Slate Gray color options. Coming to the pricing, the 6GB RAM variant costs $479/€499, where the high-end 8GB RAM variant is priced at $539/€559. The device is now available for pre-order on the company’s official website and the shipping starts from June 21st for the early pre-orders. The regular sales will kick off on June 27th in all the markets. The Indian launch of the OnePlus 5 will be held on June 22nd and will be exclusive to Amazon India.
