Samsung is currently gearing up for the launch of the Note 8 phablet which is said to be unveiled on August 23. However, it looks like the Note 8 is not the only new smartphone that Samsung is currently planning on launching. Apparently, there is a new smartphone which is also expected to launch very soon. This new smartphone has been spotted at Geekbench website and it is expected to be the Galaxy S8 Lite or Galaxy S8 Mini.

Talking about this new smartphone which has been spotted at the Geekbench website, it carries the model number SM-G9600. As mentioned earlier, this is expected to the Galaxy S8 Lite or the Galaxy S8 Mini, however, do make a note that the name is not confirmed yet and hence we suggest you wait for the official announcement. But the Geekbench website does give out some interesting details on the specs of this smartphone. According to the listing, one interesting hardware detail to note is that it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 840 SoC.

The listing says that it is a Quad-core chipset which has all the four cores clocked at 1.77GHz. Apart from that, the motherboard of the same is mentioned as “sdm840”, which makes us believe that the SoC in question is indeed the Snapdragon 840. While the details on this particular SoC is scarce at this point, it is expected to be a slightly tweaked version of the Snapdragon 820 CPU, with better GPU and modem. Apart from that, the Geekbench listing also tells us that the smartphone packs 4GB of RAM and it runs Android 7.1.2.

Unfortunately, as of now, we don’t have any info about the display or the camera on this smartphone and it looks like we have to wait a bit longer to learn more on that. However, taking a look at all these available specs, it certainly does look like another variant of the Galaxy S8 and as mentioned earlier, this could very well be the Lite or the Mini variant. Do make a note that these are just the initial set of speculation at this point since we don’t have any official info.

Having said that, we would like to know your thoughts on this. Would you be interested in buying a Lite or a Mini variant of the Galaxy S8 if it ever makes it to India?
